Felix Rosenqvist unexpected winner
Not many people would have put money on Swede Felix Rosenqvist for a win in the Masters of F3 last Sunday. Though he did. Both pre-race favourites and notably teammates Roberto Merhi and Daniel Juncadella qualified for the front row. At the start Merhi came away badly and then pushed his fellow countryman in the guardrail. It led to a chain reaction in which Carlos Munoz and Pipo Derani were directly elminated. The Spanish feud let to Rosenqvist getting the lead, and his position was never being threatened. German Marco Wittmann finished second in a Signature entered Dallara Volkswagen ahead of Dane Kevin Magnussen, one of the few drivers of the British series. Despite putting pressure on Magnussen local man Nigel Melker finished 4th. Due to the GP3 Pressure only 16 cars made it to the Masters this year. The Boss GP was won by Tom Coronel with a Benetton B197 twice. The NEC Formula Renault races went to Spanish driver Carlos Sainz Jr. and the Formule Ford Eurocup races were being won by Scott Malvern. Further Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo did some burnouts with a Toyota Camry NASCAR, whilst retired F1 driver Jos Verstappen did some demo-laps in a Formula 1 Tyrrell.
