Mike Rockenfeller might have won Daytona, Le Mans and Sebring, but that first DTM win failed until Zandvoort last weekend. The Abt Sportline driver won the race through a well calculated strategy. “Rocky” came in first for fresh tyres. Until then Canadian poleman Bruno Spengler had been in the lead. Because of problems with the radio-contact Spengler came in one lap too late, and that worked in the advantage of Rockenfeller. Martin Tomczyck put in an impressive drive and finished 3d after he took Jamie Green’s position in the closing stages. The F3 Euroseries races were being taken by Nigel Melker, Kimiya Sato and Marco Wittmann. The German Porsche Cup was being won by Jeroen Bleekemolen but Briton Nick Tandy was the man of the day after a practice crash he had to start from last place and put in a tremendous performance by taking 3rd.
