Robert Wickens and Jamie Green left Zandvoort each with a win under their seatbelt. Canadian Robert Wickens won the first race in which he passed the finishline 7.217 secs. ahead of Marco Wittmann’s BMW M4. The last time Wickens took victory was in 2015 at the Norisring. Robert Wickens: “It looked easy but it certainly was not. During the race Wittmann had his hands full of keeping Mercedes driver Christian Vietoris behind him. Wittmann shortly relieved when Paffett took Vietoris’ position but also did not succeed in passing the BMW driver. In the second race Briton Jamie Green dominated with his Audi RS5 DTM from pole position. For Green it meant his 13th DTM career win and he to wait long for a win at Zandvoort on his CV. Jamie Green I had to wait many years for this Zandvoort win. Today everything worked out. After the last pitstop the second set of tyres was very good and I was able to pull clear from Wickens and Paffett. Until the 34th lap Wickens shadowed Green but had to come in for a puncture en crossed the line in 16th place. It meant that Marco Wittmann could built up his lead in the table standings. A same fate befell Christian Vietoris in his AMG Mercedes as well.
Marco Wittmann benefitted from this and came home in 4th place and leads the tablestandings halfway the season. Now Jamie Green is in second place, only seven points in arrears. The European F3 races were being taken by Lance Stroll, Nick Cassidy and Maxmilian Günther for the Premapower team. Due to infringement of the rules Canadian Stroll had to start twice from the last row of the grid at Zandvoort. But also the brand new TCR Benelux Series and the Audi TT Cup came into action.
