Jamie Green wins thrilling DTM Battle
Photo and report Willem J. Staat
For the fifth time in five years Briton Jamie Green won the DTM Round at the Norisring. The BMW M3’s from Martin Tomczyk and Bruno Spengler had dominated the entire race, but three laps before the end Green found an immense amount of grip that enabled him to win.
Martin Tomczyk led for 75 lap but finished second 0.687 secs. behind Green. Bruno Spengler finished 3rd. Gary Paffett drove an impressive race after he had been pushed around at Grundig bend directly at the start. David Coulthard drove one of his best DTM races by finishing 5th. Joey Hand, however, finished in 14th place. Nearly all participating Audi’s suffered damage in the first lap incident. Both F3 races were being redflagged. The race on Saturday was being taken by Daniel Juncadella, but the Stewards disqualified the Spaniard for his on track actions. The second race was stopped because of rain. Raffaele Marciello was being awarded half points.
Extremely hot temperatures caused the surface to melt on Friday, but the organizers could solve the problem. The wet weather conditions on Sunday also helped for a trouble-free Race Sunday.
