Phoenix Racing repeats 24 Hrs success [Photo and report Willem J. Staat]
Last month the Nürburg based Phoenix Racing won the Nürburgring 24 Hrs. Now they repeated their success at the Nordschleife with two podium spots. Frank Stippler/Marc Basseng won the 4hrs race, with the Rowe Mercedes from Roloff/Seyffarth in second place. The second Audi R8 LMS Ultra from Nico Ludwig/Christopher Haase finished 3rd.
Frank Stippler recorded pole with a time of 8.05.783 secs. in the Phoenix Audi R8 LMS. “I had almost a free lap and only passed two cars, and that does not happen very often” he told. The Falken Porsche Porsche GT3 R from Asch/Ragginger took 4th ahead of the Dörr McLaren from Moser/Riemer/Adams. It was the best result for the McLaren until now. In the SP8 category the brand new Lexus ISC run by Toyota made it’s racing debut and finished 3rd in class with Akira Lida and Massahige Ito at the wheel.
A chaotic NEC Formula Renault Race at the GP Circuit was being won by Belgian Stoffel van Doorne ahead of Nicky de Vries and Andrea Pizzitola.
