Mercedes started the new DTM era at Hockenheim with a double win for both Britons Gary Paffett and Jamie Green. Polesitter Mattias Ekström made a mistake early in the race and lost two positions to the British AMG Mercedes twins Jamie Green and Gary Paffett. The latter enjoying a nice battle with his HWA teammate Green and finally scoring his 18th DTM win with Mercedes. Ekström finished 3rd ahead of Christian Vietoris(AMG C-Coupé) and Mike Rockenfeller(Audi). Former WTCC World Champion Andy Priaulx  brought the brand new BMW M3 home in 6th place and collected first points for RBM Motorsport from Belgium. “This was fun and we have seen that BMW is going into the right direction!” Priaulx said. The Mercedes C-Coupés from Ralf Schumacher and Ralf Coulthard were classified in 7th and 8th postion, followed by the Audi A5’s from Miguel Molina and Felipe Albuquerque. Joey Hand ended in 13th positon. “I would obviously have liked to finish further up the field, but I could not do any better than 13th. At times I felt a bit like a ping pong ball, and was hit hard on several occasions. My rear end was damaged and the car started to vibrate. However, the SAMSUNG BMW M3 DTM made it through. It may not have been the best race of my life, but I am incredibly proud to have appeared for BMW in the DTM and to be a part of this magnificent project. I am sure we will learn very quickly.” Joey Hand said. Two F3 Euroseries races were being won by Spaniard Juncadella with a Prema Dallara Mercedes. His teammate Raffaele Marciello won the second race on Saturday. During the the opening weekend at Hockenheim 142.000 spectators went through the gates during three days.
