Mattias Ekström was superb in the wet at Oschersleben. The Swede put in a magnificent performance in the wet and scored his 16th DTM victory. For Audi it was an unexpected win. During Canadian Bruno Spengler’s 2nd regular stop the wheelnut at the right frontwheel refused to come off and the Canadian lost valuable time during this stop. He even lost considerable points in the championshipstandings. Martin Tomczyck put in an impressive performance. He qualified 14th and finished 2nd, despite losing the bonnet from his Audi A4 DTM! Now he is leading the tablestandings with 9 points ahead of Spengler! Edoardo Mortara finished 2nd for the second time in a row after Brands Hatch. Audi polesitter Miguel Molina collected his first pole but could not turn it into an advantage and he only finished 8th.
Briton Gary Paffett saved the Mercedes honours by finishing 4th. During technical problems Paffett was forced to start at the back of the grid in 18th place and finished 4th. Paffett: “Had it not been for my collission with Timo Scheider in the beginning I could even have finished 2nd.” GP2 driver Christian Vietoris finished fifth ahead of Mike Rockenfeller(Audi) and Maro Engel(Mercedes). 65.000 spectators attended the meeting in the Magdeburg region.
