Since Juan Pablo Montoya left F1 for NASCAR there has been a huge interest about this kind of racing in Europe. Two Frenchman Jerome Galopin started with the Racecarseries in France with NASCAR-shaped cars being powered by a V8 engine. Meanwhile the series has been a huge success. Champion Lucas Lassere drove earlier in the year at the Toyota All Star Race at Irwindale where he finished 15th. A reward for winning the Racecarseries in 2010. Lassere intends to come back in 2012 but he has to face the opposition. It has become a FIA-sanctioned series with races abroad in Europe. The races always take place at roadcourses. May be in the future short ovals could be included. This year Racecar visitis Spain, Holland, England and Belgium. At Whitsun Dutch Racefans could see NASCAR-inspirated cars for the first time at Zandvoort. Though the weather spoilt the party a little bit, there was good racing with Eric Helary/Eric Brigand winning the future Race on Saturday. On Sunday Racecarseries stages two races, ELITE and Open. The Open Race was being won by Romain Fournillier whilst Spaniard Ander Villarino won the ELITE Race. The Spanish driver drove in the World Series by Renault and Le Mans Series where he achieved good results. “But I have chosen this one because it opens doors to NASCAR, there I want to be” he told after his impressive win in which he did beat reigning champion Lucas Lassere.
