So far this year, HART (Honda of America Racing Team) has had a stellar year with their two Honda Civics, recording two wins and two seconds in the first four races of the season. The team is based out of Marysville, OH, and the upcoming race at Mid-Ohio will serve as a home track advantage for the team. In the drivers seat for HART will be veteran Pete Halsmer and points leader, rookie Bryan Johnson. In the teams other car, we will see John Schmidt and possibly Forest Granlund return after a one-race hiatus.
The USFilter Planet Earth Motorsports team will also benefit from the home track advantage that Mid-Ohio offers them. The drivers of the #41 Comptech Sport Acura Integra GS-R, 1999 Touring Class Champions Will and Wayne Nonnamaker, spent many of their amateur racing years honing their driving skills at the Mid-Ohio track. In the #42 Comptech Sport Acura Integra GS-R, Planet Earth Motorsports regular Dick Starita will be reunited with his teammate from 1999, John Wymore. Wymore had a stellar season in 1999, finishing third in the Motorola Cup Touring Driver's Championship. The last time Motorola Cup visited Mid-Ohio in 1998, Planet Earth Motorsports took first and third in the Touring Class, with Joe Nonnamaker and Bill Pate taking the win.
