Brian Simo went two for two with his second win of the year at Lowe's Motorspeedway. "This feels good," said Simo afterward. "I didn't even think about winning
until about two turns from the end, because Paul (Gentilozzi, the pole
sitter) was right there. He was a little quicker in the infield, but I was
pretty comfortable on the banking. Once we got back out on the banking on the
last lap, I was pretty sure I could hold him off."
"This feels great, especially heading into Long Beach," said Joe Huffaker,
vice president and technical director of Huffaker/Qvale Motorsports. "The
crew is really coming together now, and this is just better than I could have
hoped for."
Jack Willes, driving for TWC, had an amazing run in only his second Trans-Am start in his career. Willes, John Paul Jr.'s teammate, was running the team's Camaro this weekend. TWC has a Camaro and a Corvette. John Paul Jr had a very good race, coming from a ninth place qualification to challenge for second place. "TWC did an excellent job of improving both cars since Sebring. I had passed Jack the lap before and was able to get a run on Hayner off the chicane. After the pass, he came back and tried to get under me. When he did, he ran into me pretty hard putting my car into a spin and off the track" stated Paul.
Leighton Reese came off some major disappointment at Sebring. While leading at Sebring, Reese and Johnny Miller came together on the last lap. Instead of what might have been Reese's first Trans-Am win, Reese came home with a broken car. After the Sebring race, Reese and Miller talked through the incident. "It was just a terrible disappointment. Johnny made a big mistake and we both paid a penalty for it. We shook hands and put that incident behind us. I think it proved we have a decent car and we know how to set one up and drive and we're hoping for a podium today."
