| Trans-Am Preview for Charlotte |
The last time the Trans-Am Series visited Charlotte was May 17th, 1981. During that race, George Follmer led the way to the checkered flag, but was penalized for jumping two restarts, and put back to fourth place. Eppie Wietzes scored a scant 0.630 second victory over a hard charging Bob Tullius.
The year 2000 should hold just as much excitement in its race. Brian Simo will be trying to make it two in a row in the brand new Tommy Bahama De Tomaso Mangusta from Huffaker Qvale Motorsports. Hot on his heels will be a slew of competitors. Defending Champion Paul Gentilozzi will be trying to avenge a first race mishap that saw him flat spot a front tire in oil, and then be forced to the back of the pack after pitting for a new tire.
Leighton Reese will be attempting to avenge a disheartening loss in the first race. Just after taking the lead on the last lap, Reese and Johnny Miller got together at turn two. Both drivers were looking for their first win, and will take that first win hunt to Charlotte for this weekend's race. Any fans that were hoping for retaliation should know that Leighton Reese and Johnny Miller had a brief phone conversation after the incident at Sebring, and both are ready to put the Sebring race behind them and move on with the rest of the season.
