| BMW Update – The car took a big hit |

The Number 43 BMW took a hit in turn one with Jean-Marc Gounon at the wheel. "The accident happened in turn one. We had slight over-steering in one. There was a bump in one, and the initial impact was with the back of the car. After the first impact with the wall, the car turned into the wall with the front of the car. The gearbox was damaged, the rear suspension was damaged, the rear wing was ruined. At this point the engine is still in question as to whether it will be okay. The team is making a decision as to whether or not to continue with the car for the 12 hours of Sebring." said Gounon. "I am very sorry that I did this to the mechanics. I was looking forward to this contract for such a long time." (This was his first race with the team.) The team was at the track until late, late in the night.
The Olive Garden Team Rafanelli Lola was right behind the BMW when it wrecked. Pierluigi Martini said "I was right behind the BMW when I saw him go off in turn one. I had to lift off the throttle to see which way he was coming back across the track. Then there was a lot of sand in the next two corners."
He continued to say "I'm happy with fifth quickest - for the moment - considering we missed a practice session to work on the car. We still have too much understeer, but we know what to do to fix that. We've had so little time on the car since our very first test last month and the factory teams have had so much testing time, so I can't complain."
