What signal does the SuperFlo 12 Hours at Sebring send out to competitors? It says, if you aren't a factory, don't compete in the GT class with anything but a Porsche. Porsche represents all but two of the cars in the GT class. The only non-Porsche team is the Tom Milner PTG factory backed BMW effort. This trend isn't too far off of the traditional effort found in the GT class. Normally Porsche has had a numbers advantage everywhere they compete.
The PTG Tom Milner effort will field two BMWs this year. One will be the tried and true BMW M3 that they have campaigned in the past years. The other will be a brand new year 2000 M3. It will plant more horsepower to the ground with less weight, and is BMWs answer to Porsches latest 911 development.
In the Porsche field we will have a wide variety of cars.
--Dick Barbour will run a Porsche 911 GT3 R for Bob Wollek. Reiser Callas will run a car for Hurley Haywood, Joel Reiser, and Craig Stanton. Skea Racing International entered a Porsche 911 GT3 R for David Murray and Johnny Mowlem. There are really too many Porsches entered to list them all. The Dick Barbour entries will be strong, as well as the Alex Job Porsches.
Attrition may play a factor in who wins the race. Team Avia driver Tony Burgess said that "Speed, consistency, and efficient pit stops are what win endurance races".
