Rand Racing scored its fourth 1-2 finish in the SRPII class during the Friday evening Rolex Sports Car Series race at Watkins Glen International. Terry Borcheller started the No. 8 Rand Racing Nissan Lola from the class pole position and held the class lead through his one-hour stint on the 2.45-mile road course. Anthony Lazzaro drove the final stint of the two-hour race and cruised to the class win.
Niclas Jönsson started second in SRPII in the No. 7 Rand Lola. He was hampered by an electrical problem, but held second place with lap times just a half-second off Borcheller's. Marino Franchitti followed Jönsson in the car. He lost a lap because of his position relative to the safety car during two caution periods, but the pair still finished second in class.
Terry Borcheller "The race was uneventful because the 7 car had a little bit of a motor issue early on, so it made it really easy. The difficult part was maintaining concentration, not having anybody to run with. I was getting a lot of [rubber] pick-up on the front tires, running through the traffic. It was really difficult to drive and it gave me a couple of moments where I just lost the grip on the front, then it would regain grip. That was a little bit disconcerting and caused me to slow down in the middle of the stint."
Anthony Lazzaro "It was good driving with Terry again. We have a perfect score together and it's kind of cool because I have a perfect score with Rand so far. Obviously, we miss Bill [team owner Rand] being here this weekend, but he's out working so he can make all this possible, and we really appreciate that. Terry and I are really, really good endurance-racing teammates. I just wonder how long a perfect score can go on!"
