Devon Powell put the #11 Powell Motorsports Corvette Z06 on the overall and Super Grand Sports pole today for the Road America 500 Grand-Am Cup race. It is Powell's third straight pole in the series. On his first full lap at speed, Powell set the fast time of 2:25.153 around the 4-mile circuit of Road America. He pulled into the pits early to wait and see if his time could be beaten.
The Motorsport Technologies Porsche will sit next to the Corvette at the front of the field. The team had a qualifying time of 2:26.102.
In the Grand Sports class, the Istook/Aines Motorsport Audi S4 of John Rutherford IV and Don Istook took the class pole and the set fourth fastest time overall, qualifying with a time of 2:31.217.
The BMW M3 of Franz Blam Racing had the second-fastest time in the Grand Sports Class and will start seventh in the overall field.
In the Sport Touring class, the Villacon International BMW Z3 Coupe of Jeff Trask and Jonathan Bomarito set the fastest qualifying time at 2:37.277. The car will start from the 29th position on the grid.
Bransen Patch and Matt Conolly took the second position on the Sport Touring class. They are co-drivers in the sister car of Trask and Bomarito.
In the C2K class, a Hyundai took the class pole as the Hyundai Motorsports Hyundai Tiburon of Gord Cullen, Mark Craig and Nigel Gleeson set the fastest class qualifying time with a 2:42.865. Following just 0.013 seconds behind and sitting in the second place on the C2K grid is the Honda of America Racing Team Honda Civic Si of Pete Halsmer, Bryan Johnson and Kevin Adams.
