 Villaconn Motorsports team driver, Jeff Trask, will have a new racing partner when the Grand Am Cup Series arrives at VIR for the Virginia Festival of Speed on June 29-30. Joining Trask in the Sport Touring Class BMW will be top ranked shifter kart pilot, Jonathan Bomarito of Monterey, California.
Bomarito has been karting since 1996 and just last season put an exclamation point on his career to date by earning a two day test in one of Bobby Rahal's Champ Cars. The drive was a reward for finishing first in the CART "Stars of Tomorrow" event held last November at the Las Vegas Karting Center. His drive to the front was described as "mature and calculated" by SuperKarts USA!'s web reporter.
"I've worked with Jonathan in the Camaro/Mustang Challenge," explains Grand Am Cup CO-driver, Trask. "He really set his mind to making the transition to sportscars and has done an excellent job adjusting to the differences (from shifter karts). He belongs in a professional series like the Grand Am."
Villaconn Motorsports will enter two race prepared BMW Z3 Coupes for the Virginia Festival of Speed. Trask and Bomarito will pilot the Urrea Tools Team Yellow #34 Coupe while Bransen Patch and Alfredo Villamil join forces in the Team Red #36 HMS Motorsport-sponsored Z3.
