Unbeknownst to them, PCA racers drove through the shade at the Oak Tree turn for the last time, June 21-23, at VIRginia International Raceway. Just a few weeks later, the iconic tree was felled by a storm.

The battle was driver and cool suit against oppressive heat as the street-based grid was split for the sprint starts into PCA and 944 Cup groups. Omar Hilmi and Doug Crossman (G) each scored an overall win, and Karl Poeltl took two in SP3, while slicing through much of the PCA grid, too. Partnering up was key for the enduro, where three of the top-four finishers were teams. Joseph Catapano and Lawson Aschenbach (GTA2) secured the win when the eventual second-place car DNF'd.

About 3,000 miles west, PCA racers joined BMW-CCA and SCCA at Laguna Seca for their Battle by the Bay, a race-packed weekend that was preceded by a open-track day to test the waters. GT2R and SP911 were classes of choice, with Craig Ames taking the GT2s and Andy Simpkinson and Robert Murillo splitting 911 victories.
