Lotus Alex Job Racing (AJR) drivers Bill Sweedler and Townsend Bell drove their Lotus Alex Job Racing Evora GT to a Tenth place finish in today's running of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park.
The team is developing the Evora GT as they race through the season. A lot of work took place since the last race at Laguna Seca and the team is starting to see some of the fruits of their labor with a top ten finish at the tough 1.5-mile Lime Rock track.
Sweedler (Westport, Conn.) had the wheel for the start. The local driver got pushed off of the fast downhill turn, but was able to gather it back up and keep going. The off cost the team valuable track time and positions, but he handed the Evora over to Bell in good condition. Bell (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) took over and drove methodically for the remaining laps recording a great top ten finish in the toughest class in ALMS.
"Our goal today was run hard all race, and we did," Sweedler said. "We are developing the car and we are showing a lot of promise. Townsend and I were really close in speed. Townsend was a bit quicker, but we had a good day with the Lotus. It was unfortunate, I got pushed off the track by one of the Ferrari's on the downhill and cost me a few laps, but the car was fine, and we kept it going. We had good pace, diced with some RSRs and passed a few competitors. It was a good day for our development program."
Bell took over the car on lap 88 and kept the Lotus Evora on the track for a good finish. Showing a lot of promise turning competitive laps and gathering valuable data as the development of the car continues.
"I am really proud of this team," Bell said. "We ran pretty strong all weekend. The team has worked really hard on the development of the car since Laguna Seca, and it is paying off. We have come, literally thousands of miles development wise. The guys have put in a lot of hours on the car. We did exactly what we wanted to do, which was run hard all day, and we did. The car ran flawlessly. We are starting to close on the competition."
Team principal, Alex Job, has his team taking a measured approach to the season with the Lotus Evora GT.
