Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada (June 25, 2012) - Randy and his #6 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 team headed to the Pirelli World Challenge GT doubleheader at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, hoping to have their bad luck out of the way. The weekend started off well with a good practice run and a second place qualifying effort. On the standing start of the first race, the Volvo all-wheel drive advantage sent Randy soaring past the pole-setting Corvette of Mike Skeen and into a huge lead. Unfortunately, the caution flag came out for teammate Alex Figge who spun in Turn One and needed help out of the gravel. On the restart, Skeen was able to get by and Randy followed in second place until lap ten when disaster struck.

"We had a fantastic start and were running well in second place, with the Corvette in front and the two Cadillacs in third and fourth. As we were passing two GTS cars at 120 mph on the long Andretti straight, giant flames suddenly arose from the hood vents, licking the windshield. It was like looking at the back of a raging fireplace and my beloved Volvo began to fill with toxic smoke. My only thought was that I needed to get out of the car as soon as possible. I immediately slowed and eased towards the side of the road as fumes began to choke me and obstruct my vision. The car suddenly began to slew about in its own oil and I blindly fought for control in a cockpit filled with billowing smoke. As I slowed, I hit the onboard fire extinguisher and killed the electrical power and already my heart ached for the K-PAX team, for all the effort expended on the car that was now burning around me. Once stopped, I snapped the belt release, grabbed the window net and began to exit. I realized we were rolling so I reached back and grabbed a gear before jumping out into fresh air. Luckily I wasn't hurt. It was not an engine issue because the car was still running fine. We must have cut an oil line. Do not miss the dramatic videos that I'm sure will soon be online. Its as if we are going through an auto racing version of the trials of Job, because what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

"My Volvo was not fixable for the next race of the weekend and we did not have a spare due to the recent events in Belle Isle. Again, like in the Detroit, the high point of the weekend was the K-PAX team and Alex Figge finishing on the podium in third. I want to thank K-PAX car owner Jim Haughey, race team owner Bob Raub and Jennifer Drews for coming to see me while I was being checked out at medical. I am feeling fine but disappointed.
