LONG BEACH, CALIF. (April 15, 2012) - After starting on the pole, Randy Pobst drove his K-PAX Volvo S60 to a second-place finish in the GT Class in the third leg of the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge. Pobst led the first eight laps but was passed by eventual winner Andy Pilgrim going into Turn One on lap nine.

"Obviously, I would be happier with a win," Pobst said, "but to finish second after struggling in St. Petersburg, well, I think our team should be proud of the accomplishment. Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going in a couple of weeks at the next race."

Pobst's teammate, Alex Figge, finished 13th after experiencing a less-than-perfect weekend. Figge qualified sixth but an engine issue resulted in the team needing to change the engine before the race. That meant Figge's K-PAX Volvo S60 had to start from the back of the GT Class in 18th position.

"I was a little aggressive in trying to pass a car," Figge said, "and went down a run-off area. After that, I just wanted to keep the car in one piece and run as smoothly as possible the rest of the race."

With his second-place finish, Pobst now sits in fifth place in the drivers' championship. Volvo is in third place in the manufacturers' championship race with 13 points, trailing Cadillac (26 points) and Porsche (20 points).

"There's a lot of racing left," Pobst said. "Nine races, to be exact. We just have to take them one at a time, one lap at a time."

The next race of the Pirelli World Challenge is April 28 at Miller Motorsports Park, just outside Salt Lake City, Utah.
