AUTO OLYMPICS CAR SHOW TO BE PART OF HEACOCK CLASSIC SVRA GOLD CUP HISTORIC RACES AT VIR Danville, VA -- Preparations are nearly complete at VIRginia International Raceway for the "auto olympics" car show that will be a part of the Heacock Classic SVRA Gold Cup Historic Races June 4th -6th. Competition, production and concept vehicles from many eras and nations will be on display in conjunction with the on track activities throughout the weekend. "At previous Heacock Classic Gold Cup's, fans have seen some of the most historic and collectible vehicles in the world," said Josh Lief, General Manager of VIR. "Each and every entry this weekend will be significant and have its own story. Heacock Classic and VIR are proud to host this event so those stories can continue to be shared." Car show registration will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Gallery building beginning at 8:30 AM. Entry to the car show will be free with a paid general admission ticket. Children under 15 are always free at VIR. As an extra bonus, car show participants will also have an opportunity to run parade laps each day starting at 2pm after judging for the car show is complete.
Winners of the Heacock Classic Pick of the Day and the People's Choice awards will be announced on both Saturday & Sunday at 4:00 PM at the Gallery. Special overall weekend awards for Best Engine, Best Paint, Best Interior and Oldest entries will be announced along with Track Choice and Long Distance awards will be announced on Sunday at 4:00 PM. George Follmer will serve as Grand Marshal of the event and will be available for meet and greets with the fans & media along with autograph sessions at times to be announced. Considered to be one of the most versatile racers ever to sit behind a wheel, Follmer won championships in the Can-Am, SCCA and Trans Am series in the sixties and seventies. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1999. In addition to the car show and regular race activities, fans will also enjoy the Lotus/Elva Challenge, OPTIMA Batteries Sprint races and Mike Stott/UBS Financial Enduro series races. For go-kart fans, there will be vintage go-kart races on the VIR Full Course harkening back to the 1960s and 70s at VIR.
Fans will find casual dining at the Pagoda along with the usual evening fare at the Oak Tree Tavern and Connie's Pub. To make your weekend special,
