DG Racing announced that Royal Purple ® and Shelby American Inc. ® have joined as sponsors for their expanded 2001 Motorola Cup season. DG Racing ran the final three races of 2000 in a 1995 Cobra R Mustang and has now added a second for the season ahead.
Royal Purple will be the title sponsor on the #87 car with Shelby American Inc. on the #88 car. Associate sponsors for 2001 include Macedonian Pictures, BASF ®, Steeda, Gliptone ®, Optima Batteries ®, K&N ® and Mustang Magic.
DG Racing entered two Cobra R Mustangs in the Grand Sports Class for the two hour race at Daytona. The #88 took the Grand Sports win, finishing eighth overall, and the #87 Mustang took seventh in class.
Team owner Greg Meindl said, " This looks to be a great season for us having added a second car for our 2001 Motorola Cup season. We have combined our efforts with Shreiner Racing to run the full 10 race schedule and will be adding a third car by the Watkins Glen race."
