At the half way mark of the American Le Mans Series Acura Sports Car Challenge in St. Petersburg, Florida, fans and owners of America's iconic Corvette sports car had something to cheer about as Eric Curran pushed the #28 LG Motorsports / Whelen Engineering Corvette to 2nd place in the hard-fought GT2 division. This is the highest any Corvette has run in GT2 at an American Le Mans Series event.

"Louis (Gigilotti) and his crew keep making all the right moves with this car," noted owner/driver, Lou Gigliotti. St. Pete is a brutal course.
Seriously, not only is it tight, there are times when, as a driver, you're nothing more than a passenger. Turn one was simply a matter of holding your breath."

"I really think we got the most out of the car and the Dunlop tire combination," Lou continued. "I think had we had the harder compound we might have been able to hold onto second place. Unfortunately, the soft tires would lose their grip after a half dozen or so laps.
Saturday's track conditions shifted considerably from what we had seen earlier in the week. And, losing the morning warm-up to a red flag incident took away the opportunity to discover the change."

Eric Curran was very pleased with his drive and the performance of the team.

"Like Lou said, the tires just went away too quickly for us to hold on. We ran as high as second and finished up fourth. We'll take it."

"I have to say," Eric added, "the LG Motorsports crew are the real- deal.
These guys never quit. About half way through this thing, we were having a lot of fun. A few things went our way with the caution and we were able to get in there and fight it out with the sharp end of the GT2 field. It was great to be part of it and it was great helping out the team and representing Whelen Engineering."

This was Curran's third opportunity to ride in the #28 LG Motorsports Riley Corvette. A fixture at the front of the World Challenge GT field, Eric has competed professionally in the NASCAR Camping World, American Le Mans, Grand Am Rolex, Koni Challenge, & World Challenge series since 2000. Curran has driven more than 30 different types of race cars ranging from front wheel drive to rear wheel drive and from 150 hp-750hp and over 40 total wins under his belt. In 2008 at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, Eric helped propel LG Motorsports to their previous highest finishing position in the team's young ALMS career, running as high as 3rd place and finishing 6th.
