YORK Motorsport to lead the way in carbon-neutral racing during NWERS
Team to offset carbon emissions created during sportscar endurance race
23 September 2007 | Seattle, Washington USA
Kevin York of YORK Motorsport today announced a new carbon-neutral program to be enacted during his upcoming participation with the West Coast Touring Cars (WCTC) team in the 2nd annual Four Hours of Pacific Raceways - part of the Northwest Endurance Racing Series (NWERS) - 20 October, 2007.
Understanding that motorsport is an obvious producer of carbon emissions, Kevin York of YORK Motorsport has created the YORK Motorsport Carbon Offset Racing program.
"We recognize the important role we can play in reducing carbon emissions. We can balance our carbon emissions while, at the same time, provide an educational platform for sports car endurance racing competitors and fans. We are proud to do so - and to make a difference." noted York.
YORK Motorsport Carbon Offset Racing will utilize the services of Carbonfund.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding solutions to climate change.
Considered for offset will be not only the total mileage accumulated by the WCTC race car during the race, but also the air and road travel York accumulates getting to and from the event.
Kevin York of YORK Motorsport has been a motorsport competitor, instructor, and coach for nearly two decades. He has been or is licensed by FIA, ACCUS, USAC, ICSCC, and Grand Am. For information, see www.yorkmotorsport.com or http://york-group.net
Carbonfund.org is leading the fight against climate change, making it easy and affordable for any individual, business or organization to eliminate their climate impact and hastening the transformation to a clean energy and technology future. For more information, see www.carbonfund.org
West Coast Touring Cars (WCTC) is an informal grouping of sports car racers set on having fun and being champions all at the same time. Rob Dunn and Paul Forgey, as team principals, race regularly in SCCA and ICSCC competition. For information, see www.westcoasttouringcars.com
Pacific Raceways is a 2.25-mile, nine turn circuit carved out of natural, wooded terrain. With a 170-mph front straight at an elevation of 150 feet above sea level and a total elevation change of 125 feet - of which 100 feet occur in one-half mile between turns 2 and 3B - it is a challenging, true driver's track.
