The Preferred Line - Road racing news and commentary
SPEED World Challenge Wednesday (August 22, 2007) By Jim Bourn
We've done well in the past at Mosport, and we hope we can do well there again. But we won't know until we get there how we stack up against the competition, so I'll reserve judgment. - Team Cadillac driver Andy Pilgrim
Today's opening thought
Tri-Point team mates Jeff Altenburg and Randy Pobst lead both Touring Car (Altenburg) and GT (Pobst) with 215 points each. I suppose it makes the denial of Jeff's appeal of his penalty from the Glen more logical for the symmetry of it all.
Cadillac looking to pad their lead at Mosport
Could the K-PAX/3R racing gang be praying for a rainy race at Mosport this weekend?
Could we blame Michael Galati for performing the once thought effective rain dance of the 1,000 goats each morning at Mosport based on his convincing win in the K-PAX Volvo S60R in 2006?
Mosport was a major turning point in the manufacturer's title in 2006 as the Noah's Ark-like conditions really gave Cadillac's title hopes a soaking as Galati's Volvo nearly lapped the star studded field.
Consider that based on practice times and even to some extent the damp qualifying session last year it was far from outlandish to think that the GM entries of Fellows and Pilgrim (Cadillac CTS-Vs) and Gigliotti and Reese (Corvettes) would have filled the podium had the race been run on a dry track. The Groom Porsches more than likely would have been fortunate to finish in the top five in the dry.
Pilgrim and Fellows had electrical problems, too much water in all the wrong places, as the Corvettes of Reese and Gigliotti faded from contention as the water soaked Mosport pavement was a major problem.
