With a budget that is approximated to be $100 million, it is expected that the Audi team win races in the ALMS. However, the domination that the Joest Racing factory Audis have displayed has surprised most everyone.
After having a bad race at the Nurburgring, Audi came to Sears Point in full force. The two Audi R8s took the front row in qualifying, and paralayed that one-two start into a dominating win in the race.
Allan McNish was responsible for the record setting pole run in qualifying, and Audi decided to have McNish start the #77 Audi for the two hour forty-five minute race. Allan McNish took off from pole and set a blistering pace in the 85-degree
heat. McNish in the number 77 Audi lapped the field on his 70th circuit to
put the cap on an excellent weekend. "After 20 laps the car became more
consistent and I was able to set a good pace. I had to make up a little bit
for what happened at the Nurburgring. Lap record, fastest race lap and an
Audi one - two makes for a great weekend."
All that was left for Capello was to maintain the edge. "I just had to concentrate, not push," Capello said. "My biggest problem was to keep concentrating. Honestly, my feeling was for me to push but I had to force myself not to push because we didn't need it."
