SPEED World Challenge Mosport Special Edition 2006 - Touring Car Qualifying (September 2, 2006) By Jim Bourn
That was one crazy, crazy qualifying session! - RealTime Racing's Nathan Bonneau on the wet and wild qualifying session at Mosport.

Because of the mystical magic lap on brand new Toyo RA1s Touring Car qualifying sessions are quite often over early as usually a driver's first hot lap is quite often his best.
All of that went out the window as while the GT session was ending the rain was relenting a bit so while the opening laps were wet everywhere the later laps got faster and faster as at least the racing line started to dry as the cars circulated the track.
Chip Herr took full use of his Quattro all-wheel drive and got into P1 early on with a time of 1:35.534 which was significantly quicker than anyone else. At this point.
As the track dried and Chip noticed that everyone was using differing lined he decided to use a waiting game and wait for the track to dry in the pits.
The session came down to patience Herr said as he prepared for the autograph session. Early on I could drive ok but the track was drying so I came in to let everyone else dry the track. But then as the session went on I told the crew we had to get back out there in case someone brought out a red flag.
I used the draft of Pierre Kleinubing for the lap, Herr said with a smile. With the draft I saw the RPMs going up and the speed up by 3 or 4 MPH so I knew that the lap would be good.
