Can Reese avenge getting crashed off the pole at Mosport in 2005?
|
Miscellaneous twisty bytes
Lou Gigliotti won his first ever professional pole position at Mosport back in the 80's and Gigliotti and Reese teamed up to win a 24 hour race in 1990 at Mosport in a Gigliotti Camaro.
I saw the new Cadillac ad spot highlighting the Cadillac CTS-V race car with Andy Pilgrim and it is really slick and amazingly cool. The new video which bridges the CTS-V race cars and the CTS street sedan was filmed at Willow Springs Raceway with Pilgrim at the wheel of the race car. The video can seen www.cadillac.com. Click on the "Uncover the Legacy" icon, select "Videos," then choose "Trickle."
In 2005 Leighton Reese set the fastest lap of the race in his crash damaged Banner Engineering Corvette besting Gigliotti by 1 thousands of a second. Upon hearing that Lou just shook his head. I cannot say who will set the fastest race lap or win the pole at Mosport this year but I can guarantee that there will be close comparisons made between the #6 and #28 Corvettes this year.
Can you guess the name of the last Acura driver to win at Mosport?
You probably missed this one as it was not Kleinubing or Cunningham but Matt Plumb who won the second of two TC races at Mosport in 2004 in a RealTime Racing TSX. Plumb finished 2nd in the first TC race of the weekend which was won by Pierre Kleinubing.
Curse of the pole? Neither pole winner in 2005 came close to winning the race as TC pole sitter Brandon Davis went off course and finished 4 laps off the pace while Leighton Reese finished 8th in GT after several pit stops to repair damage sustained during the first lap melee.
If you can spell Labour Day in Canada then you know why my name is spelled the way it is. It is an English thing!
