The rains came early in the day on Saturday and it rained and rained until late in the afternoon. The race should have started at 2:00, but the track was under water at that time. As the track dried, Motorola Cup officials decided to run the race for two hours starting at 4:15. Amazingly, the race ran completely dry although there was standing water remaining at the blindingly fast kink.
Pete Halsmer and Bryan Johnson took yet another win in the Motorola Cup as they drove their #69 HART Honda Civic si to Johnson's third win of the season. Johnson had a strong battle going with the Hyundai Motorsports car of Jocelyn Herbert and Mark Craig until the Hyundai Tiburon was slowed late in the race with apparent mechanical difficulties, eventually bringing home third place.
Placing second was the second HART car driven by World Challenge regular Mike Galati and Mid Ohio race winner John Schmitt.
Fourth in class was the number 8 Hyundai Motorsports pole-sitting entry of Didier Schraenen and Gord Cullen. Taking home fifth and sixth was the USFilter Planet Earth Motorsports Acura Integra GS-Rs.
The anticipated debut of the WTF Engineering Chevrolet Cavalier was delayed as team owner Ed Magner was injured while completing work on the cars. The word is that Magner is recovering and looking forward to getting back to driving.
