| Road America Grand Sports Weekend Preview |
|
|
The Grand Sports class has quickly become an all out battle between American and German manufacturers. Currently the score stands as Americans three, Germans two.
In the last race at Mid-Ohio, Brett and Sam Shanaman brought home the first win for Pontiac this season. The win was especially significant for the father son duo of Brett and Sam since it was their first professional win as co-drivers, and Brett's first ever professional win.
Road America will play nicely into the Firebirds hands as well as the Mustangs. The Mustangs have won two races already this year, both coming through the Mustang super team of Zippo - TF Racing.
Upholding the German manufacturers for now is Porsche with two wins. The Road America track should prove to be very challenging for the Porsches as they are not know for great power, and the Road America track has three very long straights.
Knocking at the door of being a contender, but not quite far along enough on the development curve yet is Team Hurricane in their brand new Audi S4. The team has found it hard to develop the car and be competitive with cars that have had many years of development.
"We like our chances going into any race weekend," said Team Manager for Team Hurricane, Andre Bourassa. "As we have shown in the past, the combination of our pre-race prep, the talent of our drivers (Lance Stewart and John Bourassa), and our strategy and pit stops have brought us much success. However, the new Audi S 4 has been much slower to develop than we all had hoped. We have experienced problem after problem with the car, as it has turned out to be much more fragile than expected. It has been a continuous research and development project-every time we discover one problem or weakness, we overcome it and move on to the next."
