April 7th, 2006/Richmond, CA. - The Hankook U.S. Touring Car Championship (USTCC) announced today that Round five of the 2006 Hankook USTCC Championship to be contested during the Champ Car World Series (CCWS) Portland GP race weekend of June 16-18, 2006 in Portland Raceway, Portland, Oregon has been confirmed.
Everyone at the Hankook U.S. Touring Car Championship is excited to take part in the 3-Day Festival of Speed with the Champ Car World Series at this year's Portland GP. The series is honored to take part in the Portland GP on a track like Portland Raceway with a world class open-wheel series such as the CCWS. Racing alongside other groups such as the Atlantics and the Formula Ford 2000 series is going to be fantastic and being the only production based group of the weekend will have its advantages. "The series is even more excited to show 80,000 plus race fans and the City of Portland our brand of Touring Car racing." USTCC series director Ali Arsham stated. "The fans can certainly relate to our types of cars since they are similar to the ones they may have in their own garage." Added Arsham.
The race date also marks the USTCC series' first return to Portland Raceway since 2002 and the first Portland GP with the Champ Car World Series.
As a special promotional campaign, a number of Hankook USTCC teams will be selected and will be able to give rides to the public at speed around the track sometime during the weekend. There will also be a Hankook USTCC demo/car show in Downtown Portland. More details to follow.
