James Weaver led from the first lap, and by the time he turned the car over to Butch Lietzinger he had put a lap on the field. Lietzinger then only had to keep out of trouble in order to win. "The biggest thing I had to do was not get in a wreck. Even though you want to take it easy, you have to go fast to get the tire temps up, so you have to go hard," said Lietzinger, who will co-drive again with Weaver at next weekend's race at Mid-Ohio.
Team owner Rob Dyson brought home fourth place in the Sports Racer class. Dyson teamed with Elliot Forbes Robinson, and had to make an early pit stop as he was suffering from a recurring back injury. "I had a recurring back problem. I shook the car down this morning, and I felt pretty good. This afternoon it just got tighter and tighter. The mind was willing, but the body was very weak," said Dyson. "All of our local suppliers, local police force, even our local UPS driver comes over for this race. It gives everyone a chance to see what this lunacy is all about. The advantage is you know every bump and the limitations are of the track. Being at Lime Rock, it is a special place."
Coming in second was the Doran Lista Judd of Doran Lista Racing. Didier Theys finished the car and was looking forward to next weekend's Mid-Ohio event, which will suit the Doran chassis better. "Second place is second place. We didn't have any yellow for a long time, and when it came, it came too late," said Theys. "The car run perfect. It was a good race for us, next week is Mid-Ohio, and hopefully we can win there. This chassis is better in fast corners, so Mid Ohio might be better for us."
